The Acadia University Art Gallery Presents: Whose Maud?
June 12 – July 28, 2018
Tuesday – Sunday, 12-4pm or by appointment
Whose Maud? presents the work of rug-hooker Laura Kenney and painter Steven Rhude. The exhibition takes “Whose Maud?” as its central question, in that there are many interpretations of Maud as an artist, individual, and folk art icon. Today, Maud’s life and legacy are shared through mediums including literature, art, and film. The artist and her work have come to symbolize a bucolic rural landscape, but this stands in stark contrast to the harsh realities of her life. By researching, repositioning, and reconsidering through their own practice, Kenney and Rhude ask the audience to question, Whose Maud?
