INDIE ROCKER MATT MAYS AT MIPAC IN FEBRUARY

Read Time:1 Minute, 36 Second

(Windsor, NS) Nova Scotia’s popular indie rock and roll export Matt Mays is returning to the Maritimes for a handful of dates in February including a show at the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre in Windsor.

Mays’ musical style is a blend of rootsy, heartfelt acoustic and down-home gritty rock that appeals to a wide variety of listeners.  Born in Hamilton, Ontario and raised in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Mays’ was a member of Halifax alt-country band The Guthries before striking out on his own. His solo debut Matt Mays caused quite a stir across Canada and went on to be nominated for two Juno Awards (New Artist & Adult Alternative Album). Matt followed this up with the first Matt Mays & El Torpedo album, recorded with the live band he had formed to tour in support of the Matt Mays album. Matt Mays & El Torpedo had quickly evolved into one of Canada’s best live acts. Produced with Grammy Award-winner Don Smith (Tom Petty, Keith Richards), the album’s first single “Cocaine Cowgirl” was a massive hit and the album went on to win four East Coast Music Awards in 2006.  Since then Matt has been involved in a variety of critically acclaimed film and music projects.  With the departure of a couple key members of El Torpedo in 2009, Matt opted to retire the band name but continues to perform both solo and band shows.

The MIPAC performance will take place Saturday, February 19 at 8:00PM. This event will be the eighth offering in MIPAC’s 2010/2011 Entertainment Series, a vital program featuring a rich blend of music and theatre offerings for spectators of all ages.

Ticket prices are $27 ($25 students and seniors). Tickets are available at Moe’s Place Music Sales, 129 Gerrish St, Windsor, NS (798 – 5565) Taxes and service fees are included.
