Valley Summer Theatre Presents Morris Panych’s hilarious comedy “Vigil”

Read Time:1 Minute, 30 Second

Keeping with its tradition of presenting the very best in international and Canadian theatre, Valley Summer Theatre is delighted to be finishing off its 2011 season with Morris Panych’s delightfully mischievous comedy Vigil at Acadia Cinema’s Al Whittle Theatre.

Morris Panych is one of Canada’s most prolific and celebrated playwrights and Vigil is perhaps his most produced play.  It premiered in 1995 as a co-operative venture between the Belfry Theatre of Victoria, BC and the Arts Club Theatre of Vancouver, BC and the next year won Vancouver’s Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for Outstanding Original Play or Musical.  Vigil has gone on to be produced throughout Canada and the United States.  It has also been performed in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and France.

Vigil has been described as “a small masterpiece”, “acerbically funny and sneakily affecting”, and “…deliciously absurd, incredibly funny and poignantly tender”.  If you like your comedy with a few twists and turns then Vigil is a play for you.

Pamela Halstead will be directing Vigil with a cast that will include Graham Percy in the role of Kemp and Jenny Munday in the role of Grace.

Vigil is sponsored by Joe’s Food Emporium.  The production previews on August 4, opens on August 5 and runs until August 20.   Show times are Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 pm with matinees on Sunday at 2:00 pm.  There will also be Saturday matinees at 2:00 pm on August 6 and August 20.  Ticket prices are $28.75 for adults and $21.00 for students.

Tickets can be purchased at the Box of Delights Bookstore in Wolfville by calling toll free to 1-877-845-1341 or online from www.ticketpro.ca
