Wee Ones – “Eek! Halloween!” by Sandra Boynton (Workman Publishing Co, recommended reading age 0-4) Uh-oh! The chickens are nervous! Strange things are happening. One chicken saw a pumpkin with flickering eyes, another spied a mouse of enormous size. They all saw a wizard and a witch, and a spooky robot. “WHAT’S GOING ON HERE? WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Relax, silly chickens! It’s HALLOWEEN!â€
Little Ones – “Mercy Watson-Princess in Disguise” by Kate DiCamillo & Chris Van Dusen (Candlewick Press, recommended reading age 6-9) When the Watsons decide to zip their porcine wonder into a formfitting princess dress for Halloween — complete with tiara — they are certain that Mercy will be beautiful beyond compare. Mercy is equally certain she likes the sound of trick-or-treating and can picture piles of buttered toast already. As for the Lincoln sisters next door, how could they know that their cat would lead them all on a Halloween “parade†of hysterical proportions?
