A few years ago, on June 10, 2006, “Walt Wingfield” passed another milestone in his remarkable career. It was Rod Beattie’s 3,500th performance of a Wingfield play in a little over twenty years. Since their debut at the Orange Hall in Rosemont, Ontario in August 1984, Walt and Rod have delighted capacity audiences across Canada.

Valley Summer Theatre is excited to be able to bring Rod Beattie to the Annapolis Valley this summer to star in the play that started him on this great journey.   Letter from Wingfield Farm is unprecedented in Canadian theatrical history, spawning five theatrical sequels, two anthologies and a television series to truly become a Canadian institution.

When a captain of industry trades his pinstripe suit for overalls and retreats to a hundred acre farm, the residents of Persephone Township raise their eyebrows. Weekend farmers are a common enough sight, but this man seems to think he can make a living with a broken down racehorse and a single furrow plough. Letter from Wingfield Farm is the story of one man’s attempt to embrace a less complicated world. In a series of letters to the editor of the Larkspur weekly newspaper, Walt Wingfield tells of the people and events of his first year as a man of the soil.

Letter from Wingfield Farm will be perfomed at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville from July 15th to August 1st.  Tickets are available at the Box of Delights Bookstore, or by phoning 1-877-845-1341 or by going online to ticketpro.ca.
