The Acadia Performing Arts Series Announces Full 2019-20 Season
By François Côté
The Acadia Performing Arts Series proudly releases its 2019-20 Season on April 5, as the 2018-19 Series will come to a close with the presentation of Symphony Nova Scotia in concert with star pianist Sara Davis Buechner.
The 2019-20 Series will begin in September with the Duo Turgeon and the Bergmann Duo joining forces to become the Canadian Piano Quartet, 40 fingers tickling the ivory with virtuosity. It ends in April 2020 with Grim & Fischer, a multi-award winning piece of physical theatre genius, by Wonderheads Theatre.
In between, the 2019-20 Series will feature another award-winning play, Between Breaths, by Newfoundland’s Artistic Fraud Theatre, with music by The Once. A highlight of the Series will be a December performance by Jeremy Dutcher, this year’s Juno Award and Polaris Prize winner.
Beverley Johnston and Marc Djokic, two of our country’s finest and most creative instrumentalists, come together for an October concert.
In February, Symphony Nova Scotia comes to Wolfville to take us on an exhilarating baroque Grand Tour of the Old Continent, conceived and directed by Jeanne Lamon, Tafelmusik’s long-time musical director and lead violinist.
Michael Kaeshammer, who already charmed our audience in 2012, comes back to our stage in early April with more of his irresistible New Orleans-tinged boogie/jazzy singing and pianistic prowess.
The Series also includes the Proteus Quartet, performing with “incredible precision and a great deal of emotion†an exciting and original repertoire written, or arranged, for the saxophone quartet.
The Performing Arts Series would not be complete without the Tom Regan Memorial Concert, our annual showcase of the depth of the musical talent at Acadia.
At a cost similar to last year’s, the Performing Arts Series’ subscription includes nine performances instead of eight, for unprecedented savings of nearly 30% on individual ticket purchases. That’s almost three free performances out of nine!
Full Series subscriptions go on sale on April 5, at the Acadia Box Office (boxoffice.acadiau.ca)
Individual tickets for each performance go on sale on August 1, 2019.
