Wanda Carroll is a native Newfoundlander, a writer, performer, and producer. Wanda moved to the Annapolis Valley (via Toronto) two years ago with a dream, to live in the country, have a garden and start an all female theatre festival. Well, she lives in Sheffield Mills and is harvesting her garden. And on Oct 22nd, she will complete her dream by launching her festival.
Wanda’s Theatre Festival is dedicated to giving women a voice on stage and it opens on Friday, Oct 22nd @ 8pm with Stand-Up Ladies. Three lovely ladies, Trudy Fong, Catherine Robertson and Anna Danova, will tickle your funny bone with jokes and songs! Hosted by Wanda Carroll .
On Saturday @ 8pm the fun continues with “The Road Less Gravelledâ€, a collection of funny stories about growing up in Northern Newfoundland. “The Road†won “Best of Fest†at the 2008 Winnipeg Fringe Festival and has played to sold out houses across Canada.
On Sunday, there are two wonderful shows. At 2pm “Smoked Glass Ceiling†by Rita Deverell is the story of an African American woman growing up in the south and marrying a Canadian and moving to Canada. At 8pm “Titty Talesâ€, a monologue by Wanda Carroll, pays tribute to the female form.
Wanda’s Theatre Festival has partnered with the King’s County SPCA and a portion of each ticket sale will be donated to help those who can’t help themselves. So come celebrate women in theatre, be entertained and support a good cause…all at the same time! Now that’s multitasking!
