On The Cover: Echo Nara
I am a self-taught artist who has spent the last five years exploring various media, including graphite, charcoal, conté, ink, markers, tattooing, and oil and acrylic painting. My art is influenced by mythology and post-colonial literature, which express the effects of power dynamics and systems that have bolstered colonial values. As our world experiences the initial effects of climate change and independence of AI, I feel it is important for the dominant culture to examine its foundation. My work is an attempt to express my alienation from my culture, and to create an alternate place of peace, freedom, and belonging.
Echo Nara’s current show, “Fugitives and Heroes,” with fellow Nova Scotian artist Michael Greer, is at Hardware Gallery in Kentville until September 25. For more about Echo, visit echonara.art
