The Nutcracker Ballet

Read Time:2 Minute, 1 Second
Cadance Academy under the direction of Gaea Jess is proud to bring to life the beloved children’s classic, “The Nutcracker”. The Nutcracker is a one and a half hour kaleidoscope of sights and sounds sure to enthrall the young and old alike. This will be the 5th year Cadance Academy performs their rendition of The Nutcracker at Festival Theatre in Wolfville on Sat. Dec. 4th at 2 & 7pm and Sunday the 5th at 1:00pm.

The Nutcracker Ballet includes a diverse array of dancing styles from Ballroom, Russian, Spanish, Arabian, Chinese and of course Ballet. Director Gaea Jess says this show will be the best yet. Greg Palmer, just returned from his study with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and who has just earned a spot of 3 available to perform in the opening ceremonies at the Canada games, will again play the Nutcracker. Greg wowed the audience last year with his performance and this year will be no different as he also performs a new surprise role. Aude Urbancic gives a stunning performance as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Monica Neufeld gives a wonderful performance as Clara. Monica will be our first Clara performed entirely on Pointe. Also new to the cast of characters this year will be the addition of the Snow Queen (Angeline Murphey). The land of the sweets backdrop was painted by local artist Holly Carr entirely on silk and new this year she has painted a couple of additional panels for the Waltz of the Snowflakes.

All of the choreographers have put their heart and soul into this year’s production, incorporating classic movements with some amazing modern twists to keep all in attendance in awe. Combined with Gaea’s commitment and endless enthusiasm this proves to be the best Nutcracker thus far. During last year’s performance one young child was overheard telling her mother “It’s so beautiful” and you could see she was so beside herself with joy – this is a show you don’t want to miss. Whether you are a fan of the Mouse King, Dolls, Mother Ginger, Flowers, Candy Canes or the Sugar Plum Fairy you are sure to enjoy a heart warming experience during this Christmas masterpiece.

Tickets for this event are reserved seating only and can be purchased at the Acadia Box Office or by calling 542.5500. Tickets are $12.00 for children, students and seniors
