KEVIN CAMERON: how LOGO can he go?

I speak for many people when I say that the Wolfville Farmers’ Market is an incredible venue. The food, music, artists, etc. found within those walls on Wednesdays and Saturdays are spectacular assets to our community. This week’s “Who’s Who” is someone I “met” at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market, even though he wasn’t actually present. I came across his business card on the huge rack off to the right as you enter the building. Have you seen this rack?  It’s filled to the brim with so many neat and intriguing people. Kevin Cameron’s rack card caught my eye instantly and…

STEVEN KENNARD – As the Wood Turns!

This Who’s Who was both a blast from the past and a very fortunate boost to the present for me. I have known Steven Kennard since about 1998 and it’s been a pleasure catching up with him. Steven and Ellie were two of my favourite customers when I used to work at Blockbuster Video in New Minas (a hundred years ago). I was an overweight, awkward teenager who was eager to excel at his first job and Steven and Ellie always made me feel intelligent and helpful. They always treated me with respect and maturity and that meant a great…

TERRI LYNN BLANCHARD – A Snapshot

Lights! Camera! Action! I was so excited when Terri Lynn Blanchard agreed to be profiled here in the Grapevine.  I have followed Terri Lynn on Facebook and think her photos are stunning and I really wanted to help promote her and her work to all my readers.  It’s summertime – what better way to encapsulate the fun times with warm weather, family, friends (and weddings & reunions etc.) than to have a professional photographer handy to capture those moments for you.  Terri Lynn Blanchard is just the photographer for the job.  I was also thrilled to write about her because…

MIKE SISCO AND JON SURRETTE – A Relative Business!

Every Monday and Tuesday for the last few months, after I have completed my workout at Abs-olute Health Club in New Minas, I’ve walked from there into Kentville for play rehearsals. It’s a great walk, and I pass this incredible little shop called Elsewhere. I am a sucker for used DVD’s, CD’s, Collectibles, etc. and this shop is a great find! Specialty shops like this, I find, always have the most knowledgeable staff. The men who own this shop also operate it, and as you can see from the photo, really enjoy what they do and that rubs off in…

Laurel Green:A Splash of Green!!!

Let’s see. Laurel Green loves the arts and appreciates everything associated with the arts. She’s new to Wolfville… do you think she’ll fit in and find something to do? Laurel Green is from Upper Saint John River Valley, New Brunswick. She grew up on a Christmas tree farm in a small Scottish farming settlement outside the village of Perth-Andover. I can see the sign now: “Christmas trees for Sale… Have a GREEN Christmas.” Laurel spent most of her childhood in the woods, playing and developing a love of nature. She says, “My two younger brothers and I would cut and…

Rachel Bobbitt

Dear Rachel, Thank you so much for agreeing to be in the Who’s Who. I have never been this nervous to write about someone. I know that as you read this, you’re smiling with that infectious smile of yours and saying, “Why would you be nervous to write about me? I’m so boring,” Well, Rachel, you are wrong! I am nervous because for years you’ve sat in the audience and watched me perform in many shows and have always been a great support to me, as well as a wonderful person to work with, but it’s your natural and genuine…

Leone Stanway: Note Perfect!

Well, folks, this is a first. I am sitting here at the Il Dolce Café, writing my Who’s Who, and my subject is here with me! I have never written one of these articles with the subject present. I am a little nervous, not going to lie, but inspired at the same time and feeling a little pressure to get all the facts right. Leone Stanway just happens to work as a part-time barista with me at the Il Dolce café on Elm Avenue, but that’s not how we met. Last fall, Leone came on board the Fezziwig Society as…

Tanya Barnett: A Fine Balance!

Tanya Barnett: Wife, mother (of three), grandmother (of two). Those are the basics about this extraordinary woman, but Tanya is also a counselor, mediator, seeker of knowledge, and lover of all endeavours creative. To me, having just got to know Tanya through this profile, it is clear that she is a light for many, an inspiration to many more, and one of the bravest and strongest people I’ve ever written about. Tanya moved to this area from B.C. 17 years ago. She loves the generous community here that surrounds her and her family! Tanya came to my attention through simple…

Lisa Boheme and Kevin Hernandez

Well, I’ve hooked another COUPLE for Who’s Who… these profiles are so much fun to write because I get to learn about TWO people, instead of just one, who have established themselves in our community. And this couple certainly has left their mark… well, a hole actually…. A Donut Hole! Lisa Boheme and her husband/partner Kevin Hernandez have become a sweet retreat at the Farmer’s Market lately, selling their Mortiscycle donuts. But before we get to that, let’s find out a bit more about each of them, shall we? Lisa is originally from La Jolla, California and lived in Victoria,…

Doug Lutz: A Lawyer With Appeal

It was December 2009 and I had this teeny tiny little part in a play called Brand New Year, directed by Kerri Leier. I was called in about two weeks before the show opened to fill in for someone, and I was terrified. I hadn’t been on stage in over 10 years, and the talented people at rehearsal were so intimidating I wanted to turn around and walk out of the room. The troupe was great to work with, but one adult in particular graciously welcomed me and made me feel right at home. I didn’t realize at the time that he was…
