Call for Artists! Kentville’s Hardware Gallery
By Sasha Nelson, Gallery Director
Hardware Gallery, opening soon at 36 Cornwallis Street in downtown Kentville, is looking for artists! There are a number of opportunities of which artists can take advantage.
Firstly, the gallery has a general ongoing call for submissions to exhibit at the space. All media are accepted, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, new media, installation, book arts, comics, and woodworking.
Secondly, Hardware Gallery will be running an art rental program. Artists can participate and have their work temporarily displayed at businesses or private homes. Rental fees will be collected and split between the artist and the gallery. Only two-dimensional works will be accepted for this program.
Thirdly, the gallery will have a “soft retail†space on site where smaller art items are sold that are lower cost. These may include postcards, prints, ceramics, and books.
Lastly, the gallery will be hosting a fundraising event coming up in the fall in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. Artists will create works 150mm x 150mm in dimension and have them exhibited at Hardware Gallery. There are no criteria for content, only the dimensions. Those who buy tickets to the exhibition’s opening event will also get to own an artwork of their choice on a first-ticket-sold-first-choice basis. Part of the proceeds will go to the gallery.
Hardware Gallery is run by the non-profit Kentville Art Gallery Society, with all funds collected going toward keeping the gallery in operation. If artists are interested in submitting artwork to any of these exhibition opportunities, they should contact Sasha Nelson, Gallery Director, at info@hardwaregallery.ca, indicating the program or event of interest.
