Mike Uncorked: ALL for one and one for ALL!
Acadia Lifelong Learning Program 2018-2019
By Mike Butler
Last year, I was so proud to have had the opportunity to write about the Acadia Lifelong Learning program (ALL) that’s offered here in Wolfville, through Acadia University. The response was terrific for the organization so I wanted to make sure I included some promotion for this year’s ALL program for those who are interested in some extraordinary learning opportunities.
It’s very important to mark your calendars for this Thursday, September 6 for for the 2018-2019 ALL program picnic. It’s not mandatory to attend, but it’s a great way to hear all about the new courses being offered, learn about the professors who will be teaching the courses, and hob knob with the organizers of this group. The launch picnic and AGM will be held at the Wolfville Farmer’s Market. Check out the website, all.acadiau.ca for all the details and get registered early!
The ALL Advisory Board (chaired by Heather McNally) has put a lot of work into this year’s calendar and they are very proud of the upcoming programming. This group of tireless volunteers are active representatives of their membership who are always bringing forward ideas and suggestions from friends and colleagues in our community. ALL is very lucky to have such a dedicated group who truly believe in lifelong learning.
Jessica Bradley, one of the organizers, was very enthusiastic about this year’s lineup: “our Lunchtime Learning series returns September 28. This is an increasingly popular weekly speaker series. It’s good to highlight, though, that this year the series is moving to Fridays at noon instead of Thursdays. It has been on Thursdays for many moons. We wanted to ensure we had a room on-campus big enough to accommodate the growing audience and the only availability was on Fridays. Our new home will be in Patterson Hall, room #107. The list of speakers and schedules will be on our website which is accessible right now at all.acadiau.caâ€
ALL is also excited to be partnering this year with two local groups: Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op and their National Theatre Live series, and the Acadia Performing Arts series. In both partnerships, ALL will be holding seminars (two with each group) in advance of performances to give a little background into the events provided by the other groups.
The website, as mentioned, is the go-to place for ALL the courses and seminars, ALL the professors and ALL the necessary things you’ll need to know to be a part of this special group. Their secure course registration, expanded course descriptions, instructor bios, Lunchtime Learning series info are all available online. The website really is a great resource for their membership, and more and more people are using it each year. It’s secure, and always available.
Enjoy the new season everyone! Learn lots!
